Program Description:
University of Utrecht
University of Utrecht - 3.0 GPA with a strong background in the area of study
Capacity is limited to balance enrollment of Utrecht exchange students at WU and by the availability of student housing for visiting students in Utrecht. 

Utrecht University College, the International Honors College of Utrecht University - 3.3+ gpa, with very limited capacity for visiting students, runs on a different calendar from the main university, more closely resembling WU’s calendar, so either semester may be possible for qualified students.  For certain majors, such as Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, study at Utrecht University College is not approved. For further clarification of eligibolity, please contact the Overseas Programs advisor.

Coursework and Credits:
15-16 units per semester. 2 ECTS (European Community Course-Credit Transfer System) units usually equal 1 WU unit.

Located in the heart of the Netherlands, Utrecht is one of the original city states of Europe. Utrecht University in one of the oldest universities in Europe and has developed into a large and prominent institution of research and education.

  Housing: Housing within Utrecht is tight, therefore the International Office places exchange students in student accommodations according to preferences and availability. (Utrecht University College, however, provides in-college room and board for all its students).

Student Life: There are many student organizations in Utrecht students can join. Some focus on offering social activities while others center around religion, sport, or shared cultural interest (singing, photography). Most departments have their own student organization, which, besides organizing social activities, also organize field trips within the Netherlands.

Utrecht has approximately 300,000 inhabitants, which makes it the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. Its location in the center of the country makes it a hub of activities year-round. It has the largest shopping mall in the country. The excellent railway network takes you to Amsterdam in 30 minutes, Cologne in 2 hours, Brussels in 2½ hours, or Paris in 4 hours.

  Estimated Program Price: When you study abroad for a semester or a year for academic credit, you will be charged tuition by Washington University at a rate equivalent to tuition on campus for the corresponding time period. WU tuition covers only the educational and administrative costs of the study abroad program. WU tuition does not cover any study abroad program costs for room, board, transportation, personal expenses, passport or visa fees. Such costs are charged separately either by WU, the program sponsor, or a third party.
