Description:
Since our beginnings in 1938, first as China's Children Fund and later as Christian Children's Fund, our approach has evolved into one of community development, focused on strengthening families and community structures that make up a child’s environment. The individual sponsor-to-child relationship supports this work, with sponsor funds pooled to improve life in the communities where sponsored children live. ChildFund seeks to empower children to access their potential by conducting interventions based around these topics: loving caregivers, healthcare, nutrition, clean water, education, opportunity and protection.

Past Projects of Practicum Students:?
1. Healthy and Secure Infants (HSIP). The program works to ensure that responsive and protective early experiences for parents, caregivers and children.
2. The School Based Violence Prevention Program (SBVPP). The program works to provide positive school experiences for children, eliminate corporal punishment and provide meals for both students and teachers.
3. Community development with refugees
4. Work on child protection policies and programming
5. Gender-based violence (GBV) prevention response and program design and implementation
4. Community-based child protection mechanisms (CBCPM) mapping

In-Country Transportation: Past practicum students walked, took a boda boda ($1/day), and/or were picked up and dropped off in the organization's car.
Cost: Students are responsible for flights, housing, potential visa fees, and living expenses. Students are required to purchase purchase WUSTL travel insurance for the duration of their practicum for $40/month. Past students have spent roughly $400 on housing, $3/meal (1,000 shillings), and food culminating to about $100/per month. One past practicum student stayed in a gated hotel (with a bed and bathroom to themselves) that many visiting aid workers stay in for $12 to $14/night. This hotel was arranged with the help of the organization.
Travel Immunizations or preventative medication is recommended and may be required for your program participation. Students are responsible for covering all associated costs. Please refer to the CDC for more information.
