Program Description:
IFSA-Butler Language and Culture Program
at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina
  The program allows students to enroll in 2-3 classes specially designed for students on the IFSA-Butler program at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. These classes, taught in Spanish by local professors, are intended to provide you with an understanding of the events and issues that make Argentina what it is today.  
Eligibility: Minimum 3.0 GPA is required at the time of application.  Completion of 4th level Spanish (Spanish 307D) or the equivalent prior to departure.

Coursework: All students enroll in a mandatory Spanish language class based on a placement exam; in addition, students take one or two courses offered by the program: Latin American and Argentine Literature and/or Argentine History.  Each course is 3 credits for a summer total of 6-9 credits.

The Universidad de Buenos Aires is the oldest and largest public institution for higher education in Argentina. It has many campuses spread throughout the metropolitan area. You will be taking your classes at the Filosofía y Letras campus, nestled in the Caballito neighborhood of Buenos Aires.
  Housing and Meals: Study abroad is much more than academics. Learning takes place not only during class, but 24 hours a day. One of the best out-of-class experiences is the homestay, which is a vital, required component of the IFSA-Butler program. One student is placed with a carefully selected, program approved host family for the duration of the study abroad summer.

The program fee includes two meals per day Sunday through Friday, and one meal on Saturday.

  • Full-time IFSA-Butler staff abroad for assistance and support
  • 4- to 10-day orientation programs (including transportation, accommodation, activities, student handbook and welcome materials, and most meals)
  • Intensive language program
  • Transportation to host university accommodation following orientation
  • New student orientation at host university
  • Newsletter updates throughout the semester
  • IFSA-Butler welcome meal
  • Full medical insurance plan for all students
    24-hour emergency assistance and support from on-site IFSA-Butler staff
  • Access to local medical facilities
  Estimated Program Price: The summer program fees include tuition, room and board.  Airfare, personal expenses, passport and visa costs are not included.  Visit the IFSA Butler webpage for more information.

Scholarships: IFSA-Butler General Scholarships. Any student who applies for an IFSA-Butler program may apply for a scholarship. General scholarship awards are $500 for summer programs.
